Elisabeth Leonskaja belongs to the Russian school. In her case, that means that she studied at the conservatory in Moscow. During her time at the conservatory, Elisabeth Leonskaja won numerous prizes at large international competitions such as George Enescu, Marguerite Long and Queen Elisabeth. Her musical development has been greatly influenced by Sviatoslav Richter, her teacher and collaborator.
In 1997 Leonskaja left the Soviet Union and moved to Vienna, which also marked the start of a new and prosperous career.
